Shenandoah Music Conference Day 2

Submitted by Becky Stewart
No “walking pigs in a blanket” like in Minnesota, but we did have “oatmeal on a stick” and cans of orange juice (yum!) for breakfast here at the Quality Inn Continental breakfast counter. :))
It was my day to suffer with Lisa providing moral support to me this time as I played the bells on 3 anthems.  I survived and actually had some fun.
Lisa suggested we may try to find a nice “Bistro-Bethem-type” restaurant in old town Winchester tomorrow night after our crunch to prepare for a service of Psalms at 7:30 p.m. (see attached).  The church is an old stone Presbyterian (the “frozen chosen” as one fellow here refers to the Presbys) which has no electricity so I charted some music for Lisa on clarinet.  We also have my flute and a guitar which should work nicely.
Would you please scan the attached files and send them back as pdfs to print here before the service tomorrow?
As for the spirituals, it is unclear what is needed for this Thursday morning service so we are to meet with the advisor tomorrow morning to clarify and I’ll let you know.  I think we are focused on African-American spirituals (one is attached that I wrote).
Another looooooooong day …. time to hit the sack.

So how did the search for Winchester’s “Bistro Bethem” work out?

We found a joint that served 99 cent beers .. the Cork Street Tavern with 1970’s-priced barbeque chicken and barbecue pork sandwiches. Not QUITE the Bistro ….. but we’ll continue the search!
